(Hartley)– A crash Tuesday night near Hartley claimed the life of a man.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report around 11:10 pm of a vehicle that had driven around some “road closed” signs and some fencing at a bridge construction site about one mile west of Hartley on Highway 18 and that the vehicle had started on fire.
Upon arriving authorities discovered a grey 2003 Buick Century driven by Robert Crotsley of Underwood, Iowa had been traveling eastbound and also collided with a flatbed trailer owned by Christensen Brothers Construction of Cherokee. Deputies say the vehicle traveled another 108 feet before coming to rest in the middle of the highway.
Crotsley was pronounced dead at the scene by the O’Brien County Medical Examiner.
The Iowa State Patrol, Hartley Police Department, Hartley Fire Department, Hartley ambulance and Sutherland Police Department assisted on the scene.
