Single Vehicle Crash Lands Two People In Jail On Multiple Charges

(Spencer)– Multiple charges have been filed against two people in connection with a single vehicle crash last (Sun.) night in the area of 240th Avenue and 390th Street in Clay county.

Authorities say 20-year-old Levi Hurlburt of Spencer was driving a 2019 Ford Escape eastbound on 390th Street and was attempting to turn north onto 240th Street, but failed to negotiate the turn. The vehicle went into the ditch on the opposite side of the intersection and rolled onto its side.

Upon investigating it was determined Hurlburt was under the influence of something other than alcohol. Hurlburt tried to run from the deputy but was captured and was tased after trying to resist arrest.

Authorities say a passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Seth Lane of Spencer, allegedly interrupted the deputy several times while he was trying to conduct the investigation. Lane was also placed under arrest.

Hurlburt was charged with operating while intoxicated…1st offense; possession of a controlled substance-marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; interference with official acts causing bodily injury; possession of alcohol under the legal age and several traffic offenses.

Lane was charged with possession of a controlled substance-marijuana; possession of a controlled substance…Xanax; possession of drug paraphernalia; public intoxication; and possession of alcohol under the legal age.

Hurlburt and Lane were both booked into the Clay county jail.

Authorities say the incident took place shortly after 11:30 pm.
