ISU Extension & Outreach Announces Cancellation Of District Livestock Shows & Communications Events

July 09, 2020

(Spencer)– Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Clay County and the Clay County Fair have announced there will be no district livestock shows or communication events this year due to the pandemic. They say Clay county 4-H and FFA members however will still have the opportunity to exhibit animals in a local Clay County-only show, with details to be announced later.

Clay County Extension Council Chair Gary Johnson says the decision was very difficult and required a lot of collaboration with the Extension Council, ISU Extension and Outreach staff and the Clay County Fair. He says the decision boiled down to the health and safety of youth participants, their families, and the community.

Johnson says after reviewing guidelines from the CDC and ISU Extension and Outreach and 4-H, that there just was not a safe alternative that would allow them to hold a district show this year.
