July 08, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) approved appointments to fill vacancies on the county’s Board of Adjustment and Planning and Zoning Commission. The vacancies were created after the Iowa Legislature passed a bill requiring all members of the boards come from unincorporated areas of the county.

The supervisors approved the appointment of Kirby Berhau to fill the Board of Adjustment seat previously held by Tim Hemphill who’s term expires this coming December 31st.

Three vacancies were created on the Planning and Zoning Commission. They approved the appointment of Erica Schultes to fill a seat previously held by Dahlton Kidd who’s term expires at the end of this year; Kurt Smith was appointed to fill a seat previously held by Jed Jensen with a term to expire in 2021; and Jim Blum was appointed to fill the seat previously held by Doris Welle with the term to expire in 2022.

The supervisors also today (Tues.) voted to proceed to phase 2 of reopening the courthouse, effective July 13th. Temperature checks will be conducted of everyone entering the courthouse and a hall monitor will be present as there will still be limitations in place on the number of people that will be allowed in each office at a given time. Masks will be mandatory of visitors and employees will be required to wear them when six feet of distancing isn’t possible. Entry will remain limited to the west door of the courthouse.
