Racial Slurs Made At A High School Softball Game Has School Officials Investigating

June 18, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– School officials are looking into an incident in which racial slurs were directed to some members of the Storm Lake softball team during a game Monday evening in Spirit Lake.

Storm Lake Superintendent Stacey Cole says the disparaging comments were made by some occupants of a vehicle that pulled up along the third baseline. The vehicle then took off. Cole expressed her concern about the incident in a tweet following the game.

It wasn’t known where the vehicle or its occupants are from.

In a statement, Spirit Lake Superintendent Dr. David Smith said such incidents absolutely won’t be tolerated. He said some video is being reviewed to try to determine who’s responsible.
