(Spirit Lake)– Concern over vehicle noise was a topic of discussion at today’s (Tues.) Dickinson County Board of Supervisors meeting. It stems from a citizen’s complaint and a petition with about 60 signatures on it requesting the county adopt an ordinance to address the matter. Assistant County Attorney Lonnie Saunders told the board he’s reviewed a couple of model ordinances adopted in some other areas but he says enforcement would be the issue…
“It’s very difficult to be in a specific spot at a specific time when somebody’s violating the ordinance, but it does give them some teeth to do something if they run across a violator. So from that standpoint it might be valid, it might be good. But I just think when we tailor it we have to tailor it in such a way that it can survive a court challenge. We can do that. And again I think enforcement becomes the issue.”
Supervisors said they want to do some more research on the matter and visit with the Sheriff before going any further.
