(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Public Health today (Saturday) reported an additional 648 cases of COVID-19 bringing the state’s total to 5,092 positive cases so far.
There were 1,730 negative tests for a total of 29,258 which includes testing by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs.
Officials again attribute the increase in positive cases to heightened testing through the Test Iowa initiative and surveillance testing large businesses and long term care facilities.
IDPH also reports 293 are currently hospitalized and that 1,723 Iowans have recovered from the virus.
The agency says 1 in 91 Iowans have been tested, but it’s important to point out those who test negative could later test positive if they become exposed after the testing.
