Spencer City Council Approves 1st Reading Of Ordinance Revisions For ATV’s & Golf Carts

April 23, 2020

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer is looking at the possibility of revising its ordinances that pertains to the operation of ATV’s and golf carts on city streets.

The city council Monday approved the first reading of revisions to that affect. Police Chief Mark Warburton outlined to the council the revision being proposed for ATV’s…ATV Revision

“The new ordinance as proposed here would allow residents to basically drive on all city streets without the purchase of a permit from the city but it does require them to buy the state permit. It allows them on all city streets in Spencer except for Highways 71 and 18. And it allows the ATV’s to be driven 24 hours a day.”

Similar revised provisions are being proposed for golf carts with the exception that they could only be operated on city streets from sunrise to sunset and must display slow moving vehicle signs and safety flags.

State law prohibits the operation of ATV’s and golf carts on state highways.

The revisions are still subject to final passage, expected to come at subsequent meetings.
