(Estherville)– Iowa Lakes Community College is making some contingencies available for COVID-19 accommodations should they be needed. Dee Hiney, Executive Director of Facilities Management, says the plans would include some dorm rooms at the Estherville and Emmetsburg campuses along with another facility separate from the main campus…
“Emmet County Public Health works very closely with us at Iowa Lakes and they asked that we clean some dorm rooms, just in case. This is just in case there was a surge. And we also cleaned a large building that was separate from our main building. We did the same in Palo Alto county because we have dorms there because in case they would need them, they could utilize them. And if you think about hearing the stories and stuff of people bringing in campers to help nurses have a place to live so they’re not contaminating their families, that could be for what these dorm rooms are utilized for.”
On another note, Hiney says plans to construct a new farm lab facility at the Iowa Lakes Community College Farm near Emmetsburg are moving forward. She says the college’s board of trustees Tuesday voted to proceed with plans and specifications for the 7,600 square foot facility that would be paid for through ACE funding…
“The farm lab itself would have a large shop lab area which is 75 feet by 75 feet, and that would allow equipment to be brought in and our students to work on it, learn how to run it, calibrate sprayers, those types of things in there and have large classes. It also has a smaller area which would be a classroom and offices for the farm lab.”
Hiney says a bid opening on the project is set for 2:00 pm Monday, May 18th.
