Dickinson Co. Supervisors Award Trails Bids; Hold Bidletting On New Spirit Lake Shop Building

April 14, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) awarded bids on some major trails projects to be completed this summer. The first was for a little more than $905,000. Erin Reed, Director of the Dickinson County Trails Board, told the supervisors that package includes four different projects…Trails Bids01

“Three of them are for development. They include the Emmerson Bay bypass trail and the North Bay trail and the 155th Street trail up on the north end of West Lake. It also includes maintenance work that is being addressed for drainage issues on the West Lake trail north of Okoboji View Golf Course and south of the golf course by the south tunnel, there, and we’re also addressing drainage issues on the Silver Lake Trail at Lake Park.”

The other package was for slightly more than a million dollars. Reed says that will involve the former railroad right-of-way just west of Spirit Lake…Trails Bids02

“So that will start at 219th Avenue and head west to Highway 86. A significant piece of development on that trail. It also includes the Okoboji Slough bypass which takes us around East Lake Okoboji Slough.”

Reed says all of the projects are being funded entirely through grant dollars, with no county funding involved at all.

In other business, the supervisors also today (Tues.) held a bidletting on the construction of a new county road maintenance building east of Spirit Lake. 10 bids were received, with the lowest in the amount of $2,856,000 from Graves Construction of Spencer. It was well under the architect’s estimate of $3,766,000. The supervisors are expected to award the bid at their meeting April 28th.
