Iowa Department Of Public Health Reporting 83 Additional Cases Of COVID-19 And 8 More Deaths

April 06, 2020

(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Public Health Sunday reported an additional 83 positive cases of COVID-19, with eight additional deaths. The total number of positive cases in Iowa stands at 868 since the outbreak began.

An additional 519 negative tests were reported, bringing the total number of negative tests to date in Iowa to 9,973.

The department says more than 10 percent of all positive cases in the state are associated with outbreaks in long-term care facilities. In Linn county, for example, health officials say 70 of the county’s 161 positive test results (43 percent), can be attributed to an outbreak in such a facility.

Of the new cases reported Sunday, only one was from northwest Iowa: Plymouth county.

The deaths that were reported were from Appanoose, Johnson, Polk, Linn, Scott and Washington counties. Three of the deaths occurred in Polk county.
