(Spencer)– The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority as part of its Entrepreneurial Investment Awards program. Corridor Senior Vice President Brian Dalziel says it will allow them to develop a special video series that will be made available in a progression of mentoring programs for entrepreneurs in the corridor’s service area…
“With start Up Skill Up we’ll be taking some of the content that we’ve been delivering through our workshop series called Prepare to Launch that has been very successful and very high impact for the Corridor region over the past bunch of years, and capturing that with a streaming web series so people will be able to view the guest speakers and view the educational content that they would have received in a live workshop setting with Prepare to Launch and they can grab that content on line, on demand, 10:00 at night, 3:00 in the morning, you know, on demand whenever they want to watch it so that it makes it more available.”
Dalziel says it will be another valuable tool in their toolbox to assist those looking to start up their own business…
“We have Studio 12 in Estherville, we’ve got the Spencer Collaborative here in Spencer, others are being proposed at other locations across the Corridor region; there’s multiple facilities in Dubuque and Decorah, in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, in Sioux City. These start up accelerators, these co-working facilities need educational content and they need ways where mentors can meet up with entrepreneurs and to bring people together so they can collaborate. By placing these resources on line and at no cost, we’re going to be able to really help build an integrative sort of community across the state and get people working together.”
The Corridor is one of three entrepreneurial assistance providers in the state that was awarded funding through the program.
