Spirit Lake Man Escapes Injury After A Vehicle He Was Driving Collides With An Ice Shack On Hwy 71

February 24, 2020

(Spencer)– No injuries were reported Saturday evening when a vehicle collided with an ice shack on Highway 71 in Clay county.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says Ryan Summers of Spirit Lake was driving a 2016 Dodge Durango southbound in the 2700 mile of Highway 71 when he collided with the shack that was on the roadway after it apparently fell off another vehicle.

An investigation resulted in deputies discovering that Lucas Dodge of Spencer had been driving a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe and had lost the ice shack while traveling southbound. Dodge was subsequently cited for spilling loads on a highway.

Damage to the vehicle driven by Summers was estimated at $2,500.
