(Emmetsburg)– The city of Emmetsburg has announced it’s Irish dignitary for this year’s St. Patrick’s celebration. Joan Freeman, a Senator in the Irish parliament, will preside over the festivities March 8th-15th in Emmetsburg.
Freeman was born in Clontarf, Dublin Ireland and holds degrees in psychology. She has been instrumental in establishing suicide prevention programs in the country and started up an organization raising awareness about mental illness. Freeman also started up a walk to raise money for a mental health facility that provides free therapeutic services to more than 30,000 people.
Senator Freeman was also a candidate in the 2018 Irish presidential election.
