(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson has become the first county in Iowa requiring the use of biodiesel in it’s fleet of vehicles that are compatible for it. It stems from a resolution the Board of Supervisors adopted this (Tues.) morning supporting the biofuels industry. It comes on the heels of an executive order issued recently by Governor Kim Reynolds.
Al Giese (geese) of Milford is a board member of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association. He requested the supervisors adopt a proclamation following suit of the Governor’s order…
“We said it would be great for Dickinson county as a unique county with agriculture, commercial business, and tourism because of our Iowa Great Lakes, to be the first county follow suit to that executive order with a proclamation supporting the executive order.”
In other business, the supervisors approved the receipt of $184,000 in federal funding and another $202,390 from the State Recreational Trails program for the next phase of the railroad trail project, also known as Tatonka Ska Trace. This particular funding will cover the segment from Hudson Avenue in Spirit Lake to Highway 86. The trail will eventually extend to Lake Park.
