We Have Updated Information Into The Investigation Of A Dog That Was Found Earlier This Week With Shotgun Wounds

January 11, 2020

(Terril)– New details are emerging into a dog that was found earlier this week with shotgun wounds, and a charge has been filed in the case.

The border collie was found Tuesday south of Superior by a Dickinson County Sheriff’s deputy.

An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office found that the dog had been at the residence of its owner, Dennis and Connie Mart of Terril. Authorities say the dog had bitten a person earlier in the day Tuesday and had a history of biting people on the property unprovoked. Authorities say the owners of the dog attempted to put it down on their farm by shooting it with a rifle, but the dog wasn’t killed and escaped. They say the Marts attempted to find the dog after it escaped. Upon learning the dog had been picked up, the Marts made contact with the Sheriff’s Office.

Mart was cited for not having the dog’s rabies vaccination up to date.

The sheriff’s deputy took the dog to a vet, who removed bullet fragments from the dog’s tongue. Bullet fragments were also found in its nasal cavity, but they weren’t immediately removed out of fear of causing more damage.
