(Okoboji)-The first Family Nature Night of the year is coming up at the Dickinson County Nature Center, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Dickinson County Nature Center holds their Family Nature Night program on the 4th Friday of each month.
Community Relations Coordinator Kylie Roth says, January’s program will focus on winter camouflage. “Each month the Family Nature Night has a different theme, and this one we’re starting off with a winter camouflage theme. So, we’re going to talk a little bit about how some animals change color in the winter. For instance, cardinals aren’t quite as red, goldfinches aren’t quite as yellow. Some animals naturally blend in with winter like snowy owls, and then talk about how some of those color changes affect predator and prey dynamics. So, just talking about what animals are doing in the winter, how their coloring changes, and how that affects their activity.”
She notes that the program is free, however registration is requested. “We do have a limit of how many we can take, so we usually limit it at about 60 people. So, just to reserve your spot, we ask that people call 712.336.6352. It is a free program, but we just want to be sure that we have the right amount of supplies for how many people are going to be here.”
Family Nature Night will be held January 24.
