A former Alta city council member admitted in federal court in Minnesota Wednesday he robbed the Annandale State Bank in Clearwater, Minnesota, in April.
Forty-three-year-old Daniel Huseman pleaded guilty to the Clearwater robbery and four other bank robberies in the Twin Cities area. He faces up to 25 years in prison and a 250-thousand dollar fine for each of the five armed robberies. Huseman will be sentenced in two months. He continues to be held in jail without bond.
During his plea hearing, Huseman said just before noon on April 26th he entered the Annandale State Bank and approached a teller with a handgun held across his stomach. He then placed a bag in front of the teller and demanded money. A bank employee saw Huseman leave and provided law enforcement officers with a description of his get-away car. An off-duty sheriff’s deputy saw the car and started to follow it. The State Patrol later joined the chase. Huseman was caught after he lost control and crashed into a tree. A loaded revolver, a loaded semi-automatic rifle, masks, caps, and a large quantity of loose currency was found in Huseman’s car.
Huseman also pleaded guilty Wednesday to armed robberies in Stillwater, Newport, Apple Valley, and Saint Paul. Those robberies occurred in December, January, and February.
Huseman was a member of the Alta City Council from 1994 until his recent resignation. He was an investment broker in Storm Lake.
