(West Okoboji)– The West Okoboji City Council Wednesday set August 26th as the date for a couple of public hearings.
One is on a proposal to vacate a portion of a passage way between Maywood Avenue and Terrace Park Boulevard. Some residents in that area made the request, citing safety concerns. The pass is heavily used by runners and bikers. But Larry Stoller, a Spirit Lake attorney representing some other property owners in that area, said the street should be kept open. He argued closing it would decrease property values.
The other public hearing to be held the 26th will deal with a proposed anti-keyholing ordinance. In order to have lake access, a developer would have to have atleast 100 feet of lakeshore frontage before being able to subdivide away from the lake. West Okoboji’s Planning and Zoning Commission recently voted three-to-one to recommend the council adopt the ordinance.
The council also tabled action on a funding request from the Lakes Art Center. It needs to raise additional money by September first to secure a 250-thousand dollar Vision Iowa Grant that’s been awarded for the center’s expansion project.
