(Milford)– Milford city council members were again asked Monday evening to support a proposal to replace culverts at the Lower Gar Outlet with a bridge. And they once again said no. Even though the city isn’t being asked to contribute money to the project, the county has been hoping to get the city’s moral support for the project.
This time, it was Dickinson county supervisor Wayne Northey making the pitch. But council members again repeated their concerns: they don’t feel it can be built for the 300-thousand dollar cost that’s been estimated by the county; they feel the city of Milford shouldn’t be stuck for any future maintenance costs of a bridge; and they’re concerned over liability if there should be a flood downstream on the Little Sioux River that could attributable to a bridge. Council members said they’d rather see additional box culverts put in instead of a bridge. They directed Northey to obtain a comparison on cost estimates for constructing and maintaining box culverts versus a bridge.
