(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county is following a statewide trend of seeing a large number of absentee ballots being cast so far in this year’s Presidential Election.
County Auditor Nancy Reiman says absentee ballots were available September 23rd. Since then, she says, they’ve received 1,213 ballots back. Those include those who voted in the Auditor’s Office and those that had ballots mailed to them.
Reiman says Dickinson county is on course to easily surpass the number of absentee ballots cast in the 2000 General Election.
Another sign of increased interest in this year’s election, according to Reiman, is in the number of newly-registered voters in Dickinson county. Since September 1st Reiman says 135 new voter registrations were received by her office. That does not include people who moved. That brings the total number of registered voters in Dickinson county, as of today, to 13,335.
Reiman says those planning to vote absentee need to be aware of some new requirements. For one thing, you must request an absentee ballot by filling out an official form from the Secretary of State’s Office. The forms are available on line or at your local County Auditor’s Office. Reiman says you can return those forms by mail, and an absentee ballot will be send to you. No ballots will be maked out after 5:00 p.m. October 29th.
Local County Auditors are picking up the tab for mailing out the ballots.
