(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday decided to get a cost estimate from RDG, the architect on the courthouse project, on a proposal to re-design the new jail. Sheriff Greg Baloun made the request, saying there’s a potential for problems with the current plans during times of high population. He says the current design would make it difficult to segregate prisoners in the event of a disturbance.
The supervisors unanimously approved the hiring of a permanent part-time secretary in the County Attorney’s Office to fill a vacancy created when one person resigned recently and a summer intern left to go back to school.
The supervisors approved the purchase of a new server for the county’s computer system at a cost of 30,880-dollars, which is included in the current fiscal year’s budget. The additional server is needed to support new software that’s crucial to the county’s operations.
The supervisors also approved a request from General Relief Director Beth Will to go with Clay and Humboldt counties in a 28E agreement. Will says the 28E will allow the counties to continue a program that helps those who are unable to manage their personal finances. There will be no cost to the counties.
The supervisors also heard an update from County Treasurer Linda Voss on the issuance of driver’s licenses.
