Iowa Jobless Rate Increases To Highest Rate Of Year; Local Levels Remain Fairly Steady

(Undated)– Iowa’s jobless rate is on the rise.

State officials say September’s rate stood at 4.7 percent…up from 4.5 percent in August.

Iowa Workforce Development Director Richard Running says it’s the highest rate so far this year.

Locally, Clay county saw its jobless rate decline slightly from 2.8 percent in August to 2.7 percent in September, while Dickinson county’s rate increased slightly…going from 2.1 percent in August to 2.2 percent in September.

September jobless rates in other counties in the area included Emmet at 3.5 percent; O’Brien at 2.9 percent; Osceola at 2.3 percent and Palo Alto county at 2.2 percent.
