Drug Charges Filed Against 3 Clay Co. Residents

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Drug charges have been filed against three Clay county residents as the result of two separate investigations last week.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle after pulling it over for a traffic stop Thursday near Everly. 23-year-old Mark Reese of Everly was arrested. A search warrant was executed on Reese’s residence resulting in the seizure of additional quantities of marijuana and paraphernalia. It also resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Wendy Eason of Everly.
Reese was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver marijuana…a class “D” felony; child endangerment…an aggravated misdemeanor; and possession of drug parpahernalia…a simple misdemeanor.
Eason was charged with child endangerment; possession of a controlled substance, marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities say the child endangerment charges are the result of the couple’s three-year-old child being present during narcotics activities.
Reese is being held in the Clay county jail on bond of 18,525-dollars while Eason is being held on 8,775-dollars bond.

The other arrest was made around 4:15 p.m. Saturday when a Clay county deputy made contact with 52-year-old Kenneth Versluis of Dickens who was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Sioux county. While at Versluis’ home the deputy saw pieces of drug paraphernalia and a baggie containing methamphetamine. A search of the residence turned up additional quantities of meth and drag paraphernalia.
Versluis was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver methamphetamine…a class “C” felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia…a simple misdemeanor. He was booked into the Clay county jail on bond of 65,325-dollars. Versluis will be transferred to Sioux county after being released from Clay county.
Versluis was recently convicted of narcotics charges and was sentenced to prison but is currently out of the Iowa Prison System on an appeal bond.

Authorities say their investigations into both incidents continue.
