Spencer Teen Charged In High Speed Chase

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Spencer teen has been arrested after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase Tuesday afternoon.

It started around 3:30 p.m. when 16-year-old Kyle Anderson of Spencer fled from Hartley police who were trying to stop him for a speeding violation.

Anderson took off east on Highway 18, leaving the Hartley city limits and entering rural O’Brien county at speeds of 100 miles-per-hour. Anderson eventually turned south on 120th Avenue…passing through Everly and continuing east toward Spencer.

Clay county deputies deployed stopsticks at the intersection of 180th Avenue and 330th Street near the Northwest Iowa Regional Airport west of Spencer. Anderson was taken into custody.

Anderson is charged with having no driver’s license, three stop sign violations, reckless driving, eluding, speeding, and operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. The owner of the vehicle notified the Sheriff’s Office the vehicle had been stolen from Hartley earlier in the day.

Anderson was transported to the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee.

No injuries were reported during the pursuit.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hartley Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
