(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park city council Wednesday adopted the city’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year following a public hearing. The levy will remain the same as it has the past several years…at $6.85 per thousand dollars valuation.
The council also considered a list of funding requests and voted three-to-nothing to deny a five thousand dollar request from the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association. A motion to increase the city’s donation to the Fourth of July Fireworks display from 500-dollars to a thousand dollars passed on a two-to-one vote with councilman Mike Koppert casting the no vote.
In other business, the council approved the addition of three new reserves to the city’s police force; they decided to proceed with studies involving the Iowa Department of Transportation into the possibility of putting stoplights at the corner of Highway 71 and 202nd Street just south of Emerald Hills Golf Course; and they reviewed a letter spelling out the city’s concerns over a request to rezone property on the southeast side of East Lake Okoboji that would allow for condominiums and an indoor water park. In the letter, the city expresses concern over fire protection, transportation, Emergency Medical Services, law enforcement and long range planning.
The city will present the letter to the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors at a public hearing they’ll be holding on the rezoning issue this coming Tuesday, March 15th.
