Spencer Man Donates Building, Memorabilia To IRRMA

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A Spencer man is donating a storage building in Sioux Rapids and a large part of his extensive collection of rock and roll memorabilia to the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association’s Museum in Arnolds Park.

Lyle Steece made the announcement at a press conference this (Fri.) afternoon.

John Senn of the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association says they’re thrilled to receive the donations. He says the donation of the Sioux Rapids building will allow the museum to centralize storage of artifacts not currently on display in the museum, and to prepare and assemble displays to be exhibited in the Arnolds Park museum.

Steece, who learned how to play guitar when Jimmy Hendricks died, has been collecting rock and roll memorabilia since he was a child.

Senn says Steece’s donation of memorabilia is so large they’ll be able to display only small portions of it at a time.

In making the decision to donate the items to the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association, Steece says he decided it was time to share his collection with others…and he says the IRRMA Museum in Arnolds Park is the perfect place to do that since it’s visited by people from all over the world.

Senn says some of the collection donated by Steece will also be featured in a traveling exhibit. As KUOO news reported previously, the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association has purchased a used school bus that’s being converted into a mobile museum that will travel to schools, county fairs and other events throughout Iowa to promote the Arnolds Park IRRMA Museum.
