Dickinson Supervisors Approve Bridge Project

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a contract and bond for a bridge replacement project.

Christiansen Brothers Construction of Cherokee was awarded the contract in the amount of 523,061-dollars.

County Engineer Dan Eckert says the bridge to be replaced spans the Little Sioux River on 240th Street in Okoboji Township southwest of Milford. Eckert says the project is to start this coming Monday with completion not expected until sometime next summer.

The supervisors also approved changes to a list of roads exempt from snow plowing. Eckert says slightly more than 74 miles of gravel and dirt roads in Dickinson county won’t be plowed this winter. The roads are not included in bus routes and don’t have anyone living along them. Under the changes approved Tuesday, 190th Street in Excelsior Township, which had not been plowed in the past, WILL be plowed this winter to accomodate a livestock operation. Meanwhile, 240th Avenue near the Clay county line will NOT be plowed beginning this winter because it’s no longer part of a school bus route.

The supervisors also Tuesday directed Eckert to explore the costs and interest among property owners of establishing a bio-retention area in Monarch Cove on the east side of West Lake Okoboji to address a drainage problem; and they approved a changeorder for the utility building project in the amount of 3,671-dollars to reflect changes in the routing of an electric service.

Supervisors also approved the appointment of Brad Mathis as Domestic Violence Prosecutor for the County Attorney’s Office. Mathis will split his time between Dickinson and Emmet counties.
