Burned Down Meth Lab/Chase Lands Rural Jackson Man In Jail

November 22, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– One man is in jail after a high speed chase and another was badly burned as the result of a meth lab authorities discovered in Jackson county, Minnesota.

Jackson county authorities say they executed a search warrant Friday on a farm in Belmont Township after receiving information from the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Arnolds Park Police Department about a fire and explosion that had occurred at the farm on January 22nd resulting in an individual being badly burned. The individual, who’s name hasn’t been released, was located inside a residence last Wednesday evening on East Broadway Avenue in Arnolds Park where he was being treated by friends. Police and an ambulance were called and the individual was taken to Mercy Hospital in Sioux Falls where he remains in serious condition.

Jackson county authorities say their search of the farm in Belmont Township turned up a 16-foot camper-trailer that had been destroyed by fire. Articles used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine were found in the debris, along with a large amount of marijuana and anhydrous ammonia.

Authorities say 55-year-old Grant Erickson, who resided on the property, fled the scene…leading them on a 25-mile long high-speed chase. It ended on the edge of Jackson after the vehicle Erickson was driving collided with a Jackson Police Department squad car and a Jackson County Sheriff’s squad car.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of methamphetamine and articles used to manufacture meth.

Erickson was arrested and is being held at the Jackson county jail. Formal charges are expected to be filed Monday.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Jackson Police Department and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation.
