(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Planning and Zoning Commission is considering amending the county’s zoning ordinance to add language spelling out where biodiesel and ethanol plants could be located in the county.
Zoning Administrator David Kohlhaase told the P & Z at a meeting Monday that as of now he’s had no formal inquiries from anyone looking at putting such a facility in the county, but has heard reports some companies may be looking at the possibility.
The proposal being considered by the Planning and Zoning Commission would allow biodiesel and ethanol plants as a principal permitted use in areas zoned heavy industrial and as a conditional use in agricultural districts. Kohlhaase told the commission the proposal is based on studies done with other counties that already have such facilities in place.
The P & Z took no formal action on the proposal Monday. It will be brought back to their next meeting for public comment.
