(Trimont, Mn.)– Construction on the 100-megawatt Trimont Area Wind Farm in Jackson and Martin counties of southwest Minnesota is slated to get underway in May.
That word today (Wed.) from Kandace Olsen of Great River Energy and Jan Johnson of PPM Energy of Portland, Oregon.
The project, expected to be commercially operating by the end of the year, will provide enough energy for 29-thousand homes a year.
Traditional landowner easement payments for the proejct are expected to total about 300-thousand dollars a year with the revenue participation by landowners expected to be more than double the traditional easement payment. The Trimont Area Wind Farm will be the first landowner-developed wind farm in the country.
PPM Energy will develop and build the project. The power generated by the wind farm will be sold to Great River Energy which provides power to 28 rural electric cooperatives in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Production tax revenues from the project for Jackson and Martin counties are expected to range from 350-thousand to 400-thousand dollars annually.
