Milford Man Pleads Guilty To Fraud Charges

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Milford man entered guilty pleas Tuesday in Dickinson County District Court to fraud charges.

Larry Lavin pleaded guilty to one count each of fraudulent practices in the second degree…a class “D” felony; and fraudulent practices in the first degree…a class “C” felony. Sentencing is set for Monday, July 10th.

Lavin had originally been charged in December of 2004 with four counts of fraudulent practices in the first degree…each a class “C” felony; 14 counts of fraudulent practices in the second degree…each a class “D” felony; and one count of ongoing criminal conduct…a class “B” felony.

Authorities say the charges stemmed from Lavin selling investments in Spencer Capital Growth. He had been a licensed insurance agent, but on April 8th, 2004 he entered into a consent agreement with the Iowa Insurance Division, which permanently revoked his license for some previous violations.
