Southern Minnesota Marine Killed In Iraq

November 22, 2014

(Sherburn, Mn.)– A marine from the southern Minnesota town of Sherburn has been killed in Iraq.

The godfather of Lance Corporal Robert Posivio the third says Posivio died Tuesday while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the Al-Anbar province in Iraq. He was a passenger in a vehicle struck by an improvised explosive device.

The 22-year-old soldier had been recently sent back into combat after being injured in a mortar attack April 13th.

Posivio joined the marines right after he finished high school and had served for nearly four years. He was due to be honorably discharged July 28th.

His mother says he was serving his third tour of duty in Iraq.

The loss is the family’s second tragedy in two years. Posivio’s younger brother, Daniel, was killed in a car accident in July 2004. Daniel Posivio was on leave from the U-S Navy at the time of the accident.
