(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake woman who’s a cancer survivor has been selected as an ambassador at a special event coming up in September in Washington, D.C.
Di Hirt of Spirit Lake was selected for the honor by the American Cancer Society. Hirt will be one of 10-thousand cancer survivors that will be participating in the event September 19th and 20th. She tells KUOO news they’ll be meeting with lawmakers urging them to boost the federal commitment to cancer research and programs.
Hirt says the ambassadors will also converge on the National Mall to share stories about how cancer has touched their lives.
