Dickinson Co. Courthouse Springs Another Leak

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county’s new courthouse sprung another leak during a storm August 1st that dumped more than four inches of rain in a short period of time.

The board of supervisors were told earlier this week the water apparently leaked through the building’s roof, ruining ceiling tile in the Clerk of Court’s Office, It also soaked the carpet and got into some court documents that had to be dried out.

The county’s owner-representative on the project told the supervisors the general contractor has told the company that installed the roof to correct the problem.

It was also reported that water again leaked through a temporary wall near the Assessor’s Office, soaking carpet in that area as well. It’s the third time that’s happened…and at 300-dollars each time to clean the carpet, the cost is becoming an issue with supervisors.

Water also once again leaked through a conduit in a room in the basement that houses computer equipment critical to the county’s 911 system. None of the equipment was damaged as the water ran across the floor. The county’s owner-representative told the supervisors that problem should take care of itself once the second phase of the courthouse is done and final grades are established around the new building.
