Clay Co. Jail Inmates Accused Of Distributing Prescription Drug

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– The alleged distribution of a prescription drug in the Clay county jail has brought additional charges against two inmates.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it stems from a phone conversation in which an inmate talked about the distribution of a prescription drug among inmates. The call was being monitored by jail personnel, which resulted in a search of the jail and inmates. Authorities say they found some Diazepam pills during a search of Nathan Franklin…one of the inmates. In the phone conversation, Franklin indicated he received the pill from another inmate, James Long. The prescription drug is being administered to Long by Clay county jail staff.

Long was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent and furnishing contraband in a detention facility.

Franklin was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of contraband in a detention facility.

All are class “D” felonies.
