Arnolds Park Man Injured In Hunting Accident

(Estherville)– An Arnolds Park man was injured in a hunting accident over the weekend in Emmet county.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 59-year-old Larry Peterson of Arnolds Park was hunting deer Saturday with two friends at Anderson Prairie north of Estherville when the incident happened between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m.

Reports indicate the three had completed a hunt and were back at their vehicles when Peterson’s gun slipped from his hands, hit the ground and discharged. The slug passed his through his left wrist.

Peterson was taken to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville and was transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital. Authorities say his injuries were not life threatening.

No one else was hurt.

Saturday was the opening day of the second shotgun deer hunting season.

It was the first personal injury report of the 2006-’07 firearm deer hunting seasons.
