(Spirit Lake)– The completion date for a new auditorium being built on the east side of Spirit Lake High School is being pushed back.
The school board Monday approved a motion setting September 21st, 2007 as the new completion date for the Sami Center. The original completion date was July 1st. Delays in steel shipments are to blame.
On a related matter, the board discussed whether to request a changeorder to install paneling on the interior of the lobby and foyer areas at an estimated cost of 116,540-dollars. Board member Cliff Garvey said justifying the additional expenditure to taxpayers would be difficult, adding that students won’t necessarily do any better because of it.
The board deferred action on the matter to its next meeting.
The board also approved a changeorder of 10,286-dollars for the auditorium project and another in the amount of 10,688-dollars for the new gymnasium. It was reported most of the gym project is completed with the exception of some punch list items. Superintendent Tim Grieves says the gym project remains on budget.
