Winter Storm Brings Badly Needed Rain

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A winter storm that was originally expected to bring quite a bit of snow to the area brought rain instead.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight tonight (Thurs.) for portions of the region, including the Iowa Great Lakes, and most of southwest Minnesota.

Temperatures hovered near freezing Wednesday night and this (Thurs.) morning. But so far, little or no icing has been reported with area highways just wet.

Nearly six tenth-of-an-inch of rain has fallen at the KUOO studios since it started Wednesday morning.

Most of the rain had moved out of the region by Noon (Thurs.), but the National Weather Service says there’s still a possibility for some light rain/and or snow tonight (Thurs.) and early tomorrow, with an inch or less of snow expected. Slick roads could become a factor though as temperatures are expected to drop to the mid 20’s tonight (Thurs.).
