Dickinson Co. Supervisors Discuss Proposed Noise Ordinance

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors continue to explore the possibility of a noise ordinance for unincorporated areas of the county.

Supervisors Tuesday were given copies of ordinances already in effect in Okoboji and Arnolds Park for review.

The likelihood of the county passing such an ordinance remains up in the air. Supervisor Paul Johnson initially requested the supervisors look into the matter, saying he was getting complaints from various people.

However, fellow supervisor Mardi Allen says it’s important the supervisors not adopt an ordinance that appears to target one individual or establishment, saying it would amount to harrassment and discrimination.

And supervisors say any ordinance that does pass may have to have some exceptions included in it, such as a leash law the county has adopted, so it won’t interfere with farming operations.
