(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors met briefly Friday afternoon to take care of some organizational issues for the upcoming year.
Following the oath of office to the supervisors, David Gottsche was re-elected Chairman and Pam Jordan as Vice-Chair.
On a vote of three-to-two, the supervisors approved a motion to sell the county’s sidewalk snow removal equipment to the same firm that’s providing custodial, yard and snow removal services for the new courthouse. The equipment is being sold for 9,093-dollars.
Gottsche and fellow supervisor Wayne Northey voted against the motion to sell the equipment. Northey said he’s concerned the county will be forced to buy all new equipment if the supervisors should decide to opt out of the maintenance contract sometime in the future. Fellow supervisor Marti Allen said the sale of the equipment was part of the original proposal and that it would have to be replaced over the next several years anyway.
The supervisors also voted three-to-two to approve an addendum to the courthouse maintenance contract to pay the maintenance firm 20-dollars an hour to remove snow manually or 35-dollars whenever machinery has to be used.
Gottsche and Northey cast the dissenting votes on that motion as well.
