(Spirit Lake)– Other than a few reports of vehicles going into ditches, local authorities say there were no major accidents as a result of the New Year’s Eve snowstorm that dumped about four inches of snow on the Iowa Great Lakes.
The snow fell on top of ice, resulting in slick roads, which combined with low visibility with snow and blowing snow to make travel hazardous for new year’s revelers.
Many residents ushered in 2007 by digging out from only the second major snowfall of the season so far.
The National Weather Service says things should be mild and dry the next couple of days, with a chance for more freezing and rain Friday and Saturday, followed by colder temperatures next week.
