18-Year-Old Charged In Des Moines Bank Robberies Being Held In Dickinson County

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A teen accused of robbing several banks in the Des Moines area has been arrested in northwest Iowa.

18-year-old Michael Wiest of Des Moines was arrested last Thursday in Sheldon on warrants for parole violation and as a material witness to bank robbery.

The robberies took place December 18th at Affinity Credit Union; December 20th at a Liberty Bank and December 22nd at Financial Plus Credit Union…all in the Des Moines area.

Officials say the suspect in each incident was armed, but no one was hurt.

Wiest was charged with one of the robberies over the weekend and the other two today (Tuesday).

He’s being held in the Dickinson county jail until he can be returned to Polk county.
