(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association has announced the 2007 inductees into its Hall of Fame.
Out-of-state inductees include Ritchie Valens, who died tragically when a plane crashed into an Iowa corn field; and the group “Smoke Ring” from Nebraska.
The late Harriett Hilliard Nelson, born Peggy Lou Snyder in Des Moines, is this year’s inductee into the “women who rocked” category.
Other inductees include the group “Somthin Blue” from the Paullina and LeMars areas; one-armed guitar playing virtuoso Gary Johnson of Odebolt; Russell Bizzett of Sioux City; and the first inducteed in the Support Staff category–the late Tommy Remp of Sioux City.
Ballrooms being inducted this year include the Lake Robbins Ballroom near Woodward and the Bancroft Ballroom in Bancroft.
The Hawks of Fort Dodge and Koats of Male of Spencer are two groups from northwest Iowa being inducted; northeast Iowa is represented by the Blue Band of Cedar Falls; Al’s Untouchables of Cedar Rapids and disc jockey George Patrick of the Waterloo and Cedar Falls area.
Inducted from southeast Iowa will be Patrick Hazell and the Mother Blues Band from Washington; Yettin of Oskaloosa and West Music, based in Coralville.
Central Iowa inductees include Quarry and the Princemen…both of Des Moines.
Inductees from southwest Iowa include Fifth Generation from Carroll and the Great Imposters from Harlan.
Recipients of the Dan Matousek Lifetime Achievement Award for 2007 will be Steve Brown of Cedar Rapids and James Ronan of Decorah.
All 23 inductees will be honored during the 10th Anniversary Diamond Decade of Music Induction Ceremony this coming Labor Day weekend at Arnolds Park.
