(Spencer)– Several traffic charges have been filed against a juvenile in connection with an incident early Thursday in Clay county.
The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy made a traffic stop around 1:15 a.m. and cited the driver for violating terms of a graduated driver’s license. An adult passenger then took over the wheel.
About a half-hour later, the same deputy was north of Spencer on Highway 71 when he saw the same vehicle from the earlier traffic stop headed north. The vehicle was clocked at 108 miles-per-hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone. The deputy gave chase, catching up with the vehicle west of Fostoria where the driver finally pulled over. Authorities say the juvenile that was driving the vehicle during the first traffic stop was back behind the wheel and had been driving again.
The 17-year-old male from Sioux Rapids was arrested and charged with speed–108 miles-per-hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone; reckless driving; and two counts of violating terms of a graduated driver’s license.
The juvenile…who’s name wasn’t released…was turned over to a legal guardian.
