Slick Roads Cause Accidents & Late Starts

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The two and-a-half inches of snow that fell overnight (Sunday) resulted in late starts this (Monday) morning for several school districts and caused headaches for motorists.

Authorities throughout the region report numerous fender-benders and vehicles in ditches due to slick roads.

Hardest hit was Highway 71 between Spirit Lake and Spencer. A mishap in Arnolds Park resulted in the road being shut down a few minutes. Police say a driver lost control and slid into a retaining wall near Oak Hill Marina. Fortunately no serious injuries were reported. Damage was reported as minimal.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says more snow is on the way tonight (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday). A snow advisory has been issued for the possibility of as much as five inches of new snow. In addition, strong wind is expected to cause blowing and drifting.

Another surge of arctic air is expected behind the system for the rest of the week.
