(Milford)– The Milford city council Monday reviewed preliminary architectural plans for a new fire station.
It would be built on a parcel of land on 18th Street.
The council reviewed plans for a two-story pre-cast concrete structure totalling 21,615 square feet. It has an estimated cost of 2.55 million dollars, which does not include furnishings.
The main level would include six bays along with an apparatus bay; administrative area with offices; a training room; kitchen; decontamination area; maintenance; mechanical and storage rooms along with an air filling station. Physical fitness and lockerrooms would also be included.
The second floor would include some future dormitory rooms, a future kitchen and day room. Officials say those provisions are being included to accomodate the possibility of a paid department sometime in the future.
While council members expressed concern over the cost, they felt it was important those provisions be included now, as any future expansion would be just that much more expensive.
The architect will draw up more detailed plans to be included in public presentations leading up to a bond issue election.
