(Spirit Lake)– Plans to expand an urban renewal area drew concern at a public hearing at Tuesday’s Spirit Lake city council meeting.
Steve Anderson and Terry Yarns of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission addressed the council, saying the commission voted to recommend the council approve the expanded urban renewal district, but with some reservations. Yarns says commission members are deeply concerned over the impact this could have on the city’s indebtedness.
The expanded district includes several new residential developments in the city. And Yarns says the commission is concerned that any slow down in new construction in those areas will only add to the city’s financial problems.
The council voted five-to-nothing in favor of expanding the district.
