Wahpeton To Join Dickinson Co. In Fighting To Uphold Permit Denial For Airport

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– A lakes area city is signing on with Dickinson county’s efforts to uphold a board of adjustment denial of a special use permit for a private airport in Dickinson county.

The Wahpeton city council Monday voted to have City Attorney Don Hemphill join the county’s legal team in upholding the board’s denial of the permit.

Developer Scott Nylen wanted to build the facility in section 27 of Lakeville Township.

Nylen indicated he wouldn’t appeal the board’s denial immediately following a vote on the matter December 18th of last year. He changed his mind though a couple weeks later and filed an appeal in Dickinson County District Court.

The proposed airport drew opposition from neighbors of the proposed site as well as residents on West Lake Okoboji and the city of Wahpeton. They were concerned over noise, pollution, drainage and other issues.
