Sanborn Man Arrested On O’Brien County Burglary Charges

November 22, 2014

(Primghar)– A Sanborn man has been arrested by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office on multiple counts of third degree burglary for his alleged role in some residential burglaries in northern O’Brien county.

Authorities say 48-year-old Marlyn Dale VanTol of Sanborn was booked into the O’Brien county jail Tuesday on four counts of third degree burglary to residences and one count of third degree burglary to a vehicle.

The burglary charges involving residences are class “D” felonies while the burglary charge involving the vehicle is an aggravated misdemeanor. Each of the felony charges carries a penalty of five years in prison and up to a 7,500-dollar fine. The aggravated misdemeanor charge carries a penalty of up to two years in prison and up to a five thousand dollar fine.

VanTol appeared before a magistrate who set an unsecured appearance bond of 48,750-dollars. VanTol was then released.

Authorities say the charges stem from a two and-a-half month investigation into burglaries involving cash taken from residences. They say in each case the victim’s home wasn’t locked.
